Nice Powerful Light January 30, 2010 Ken (Blaine, WA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This light currently puts out the most lumens (265) out the front as compared to lights in the same class. Construction is excellent. Fit and finish is top notch. The crenelated bezel at the front is not as pronounced as the Fenix T-series, but it'll work just fine. At the back is the reverse clicky with two parallel raised collars for the lanyard. The light comes packed with a lanyard, two spare O-rings, an orange replacement clicky cover, a nice clip and a holster. The holster holds the light snugly, having a heavy grade denier velcro strap to ensure this light will stay put. The back of the holster gives you a few carry options. It has a tear-away velcro strap you can secure around most anything. Beneath that is another opening, allowing one to run a belt through, or one can utilize Molle attachments. At the top of the holster is a plastic d-ring that allows one to clip it most anywhere.
Controls are easily enough mastered in a half hour or so of playing with it. Just the right amount of light options for me. Having the strobe option was a make or break deal for me, and the PD30 has a variable strobe, meaning the flashes speed up and slow down, further confusing any BG (Bad Guy). I'll probably never use the SOS option. Turning the head fully tight enables the "turbo" mode and the strobe; loosening the head will give you low, medium, high and the SOS.
The PD30's beam is meant to light a large area all at once, as opposed to a tight throw beam. A BG 60 feet away will find he has no place to hide when illuminated, as this light specializes in flooding an area with bright light. But if you're strictly looking for a light with a long, tight throw, this is not your light. There are a couple of artifacts in the beam, but nothing that will affect usage. One can see this light from 2 miles away easily enough, but won't throw enough light to be any good past 100 yards. You've got to know this before you decide to get this light. If you're looking for throw, try the Fenix T series collection.
The light uses 2 (two) CR123 lithium batteries. There have been cases of this light having difficulty running the rechargeable batteries (RCR123), so be warned. To date, I haven't had a problem at all. Run time is excellent, but of course,it will depend on usage.
Awsome Little Light June 9, 2010 Tony T. Kao (USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a Surefire fan. But after giving R2 version of this light to my boss for his Birthday, I decided to get R4 version of this light instead of Surefire E2DL or Lx2 and give it a try. The light came in a nice little package. It is approximately 4.75 inches about the size of Surefire E2E, but this light packs a lot more light than E2E. I do not have the equipment to measure the actual lumen of PD30-R4 but it is brighter than my Surefire M3 - 225 lumen bulb. The throw may not be as good but I have no problem using this flashlight to light up the backyard from the second floor of my house at night. Not only I am impressed with the amount of light PD30 can give out I love the different modes that the light has. At $50 a piece, this is definitely an competitive alternative to Surefire lights. This is also the light I carry everyday now.
awesome small flashlight July 25, 2010 T. TRUONG (CA, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ordered this one on Sunday, but didn't ship until Wednesday. Came Saturday. Tracking # was also wrong. The lid of of box was bent and so I was worried that it might be opened or refurbished. Checked and had no damage or used.
I used Tenergy's LiFePO4 750mAh, 3V. to test. Press in (click sound), to turn on, and then to switch between modes, simply gentle press. I thought one has to press hard to switch mode, but no.
Mode: 1 = 11 lumens, 2 = 75 lumens, which is bright; mode 3 = 140 lumens very bright. Mode 2 & 3 seems similar; Mode 4 = SOS (annoying and dizzy). Mode Turbo = rotate the body of light clockwise and it shines 265 lumens (very very bright, but suck up batteries quickly). Rotate counter clockwise, and it will go back to 11 lumens.
Overall, this thing was much smaller than my Brinkmann's 150 lumens flashlight (3AAA). It's as big as a thick permanent marker. I was surprised; thought it would be bigger, but no, and very powerful. I'm very satisfied with it. For $52, it's a worth buy; cheaper and more power than the other fenix lights. Now this is my new everyday use toy.
Bright, compact, well made May 16, 2010 Kwan L. Lowe (Florida, USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this light on a whim. I had some gift cards to redeem and was impressed by the Fenix E01 I had recently purchased.
The Fenix 265 is a touch larger than I had anticipated, but even so is compact. I was expecting something about the size of the Leatherman Monarch 300, which is small enough to carry my shirt front pocket. The F265 is too large for that and is best carried on a belt or in a pack. It includes decent holster to this end, but the belt loop is large so tends to slide around a bit when attached to the belt. However, it also has a separate Velcro loop so attaches readily to webbed rigging. There's also a decent clip so you can attach directly to a belt without the holster. The package also includes a lanyard, a spare black rubber cap and a couple O-rings.
The light itself is well made. It doesn't weigh much, but materials look and feel sturdy and rugged. And heck, this thing is bright. It has three different light outputs, plus a strobe. Only the lowest level is not blindingly bright, which I discovered by trying to peek at the light. In my defense, looking at the bulb/LED on most other lights is not usually a problem. It took five minutes before the flash spots cleared from my eyes. Now I know this is not the brightest light out there, but this thing is so much brighter than any other light that I own that I took it out by the ocean (no streetlights, on account of turtle restrictions) just to play with it. I ran through a couple lithium cells already by using the turbo mode for a couple hours.
No cons that I can think of. The batteries are not too expensive if bought online. I have a couple years worth for $20 (12 cells, which should last a long time).
Fenix PD30 R4 Flashlight July 21, 2010 Elecwizz 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This flashlight is great. The amount of light that comes out of this pocket light us unbelievable. I purchased the Fenix headband and 4
rechargeable CR123's and everything works perfect together. I am now officially a Fenix fan. Superb product, very well manufactured.
